The New Mexico devoted a feature to the Four Seasons Resort and Residences Cabo San Lucas at Cabo Del Sol, on the Golden Corridor of Mexico’s Baja Peninsula — a resort our sister company MERCANTIL supplied.
We want to be precise about credit, because the magazine is. The resort’s architecture is by Robert C. Glazier, with interiors by EDG and Meyer Davis. Hillary Kent did not design this project. MERCANTIL’s role was purchasing and artisan sourcing: locating, commissioning and delivering the pieces that the design team specified.
The article’s argument is one we recognise from every project we take on this coast: that a resort here succeeds when it treats Mexican heritage as a working material rather than a decorative theme. The New Mexico credits the design team for drawing on organic colour, texture and form native to the region, and for letting the ocean and the light set the terms.
That is the harder path. It means sourcing stone, clay, textile and timber that belong to the place, and accepting the constraints that come with them — limited runs, longer lead times, workshops that cannot be rushed. It is also the only route to a building that reads as though it grew where it stands.
