SPA & WELLNESS INTERIOR DESIGN

A spa should lower a guest’s heart rate at the threshold. We design and furnish spas, med spas and wellness spaces where calm is built from material honesty — hand-finished plaster, natural stone, raw timber and textiles woven by Mexican artisans — rather than applied as decoration. Based in Todos Santos and Los Cabos with offices in Mexico City and Miami, the studio serves resort operators, med spa founders and private clients.

Our reference project: the full renovation of The Well Spa at Chileno Bay Resort & Residences (Auberge Resorts) in Los Cabos, where MERCANTIL delivered procurement for the transformation to THE WELL’s holistic brand standards alongside Other World Design — a project defined by environmental sustainability and customized guest experience.

Spaces we design

  • Resort and hotel spas
  • Med spas and wellness clinics
  • Yoga, meditation and movement studios
  • Hammams, thermal suites and treatment rooms
  • Wellness amenities within residences and developments

Designing for wellness brands

Wellness brands live or die on consistency: a guest who knows the brand in New York must recognize it in Los Cabos. Translating brand standards into a new climate and culture is exacting work — surfaces that meet hygiene and durability specifications while still feeling natural, treatment rooms that serve practitioners as well as guests, and a material palette that honors the brand book without ignoring the coastline outside. At The Well Spa, sustainability was written into the brief itself; we met it through sourcing decisions, not gestures.

Material culture, calm by design

Baja hands us the palette: warm neutrals, natural fiber, clay and volcanic stone, light that changes by the hour. We sequence a guest’s arrival the way the landscape does — compression, release, view — and let artisan-made textures do the quiet work that no scented candle can. Every piece is produced or sourced through MERCANTIL’s workshop network, which means shorter supply chains, honest materials and a spa that belongs to its place.

Frequently asked questions

Do you design med spas as well as resort spas?

Yes — treatment-room planning, front-of-house and retail for med spas and clinics, with the same material warmth we bring to resort wellness spaces.

Can you meet a wellness brand’s operating standards?

Yes. At The Well Spa, Chileno Bay we worked to THE WELL’s holistic brand standards, delivering customized guest experiences within an operating Auberge resort.

How do you approach sustainability in spa design?

Locally produced furniture and materials through MERCANTIL, natural and durable finishes, and artisan production that shortens supply chains — sustainability was a core requirement at Chileno Bay.

What does a spa project cost?

Scope varies widely; after an initial consultation we provide a fee proposal and an FF&E budget range for your space.
